I'd like to publicly thank the cop whoever he is, who stopped me late Sunday night.... Because, getting stopped woke me up enough physically to be able to drive the rest of the way home without nodding back off. To that officer, whoever you are, though you might not see this, Thank you sir, you might have saved my life, or saved me a lot of trouble anyway, I could have crashed really bad that night otherwise. I'd also like to thank him for not giving me a ticket as I had been speeding, though I don't know exactly how fast, but apparently fast enough to be stopped.
I'd decided, around midnight, that I wanted to drive out to the St. Augustine Beaches area, to the one across from the Fire Station on A1A so I could sit on the hood of my truck and look at the night sky. Since that particular beach is somewhat isolated and pitch dark at night, its perfect for seeing a lot of stars. So I sat and watched the sky and reflected on things... thought on the deep topics. Yanno its a great way to clear one's mind, a long drive followed by star-gazing by the beach at high tide. Its peaceful. Well anyway, about half-way out there, I started smelling a funky odor in the truck... a really strong one, thought it might have been from the construction that's been going on along US1/Phillips Hwy forever. Until I saw my check engine light flashing, meaning misfire detected, it was bogging down too. So I reckon I was smelling raw fuel... the whole truck reeked of it, shit it was bad... nasty smell. Hits your nostrils like an atomic bomb it does. Its went away after like 5 min though, and everything was normal again. Stayed out a little later than I should have tho, and was nodding off real bad on the way home... going in upwards of 60 on US1, trying to get home before I fell asleep. Maybe 6 or 7 miles from home, I'd slowed down some, just because the area around here along phillips hwy is more densely populated and the speed limits are slower. Anyway, stopped at a red light, and when it turned green a cop lit me up and stopped me, said I was going "A little quick" and the speed limit is 45 and then he just sent me on my way. I was there less than 5 minutes. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that officer was a guardian angel in disguise, because I was probably moving fast enough to maybe warrant a very steep fine.
